I’ve never had laser removal on any of my tattoos, I don’t know too much about the process either. In a move to know a little more about the process and factors involved in lasering I’ve decided to slowly learn a bit about it so if a client asks I can give them some general information or at the very least point them in the right direction.
Most of the sites and blogs I’ve come across weren’t that informative, either short blurbs on how their brand of laser was the best or how the process works. KissYourInkGoodbye.com had a few good articles though, the 2 most interesting ones I found were How skin types affect tattoo removal and The Kirby Desai scale calculator.
A few things I picked up on was the darker a skin type, the higher the melanin levels, the longer the laser process will take as they have to be careful not to damage the melanin. Another interesting point was the less blood flow to an area, the more sessions required for lasering, there was actually quite a lot of decent information on the blog. Definitely worth a read if you’d like to know a little bit more about how laser technicians determine how long (how many sessions) a tattoo will take to remove and why darker colours are easier to remove.
